The Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums were established in 1975 when a few adult students began to learn to play the Great Highland Bagpipes under the tutelage of a 14-year-old piper. Since then, the band has grown in numbers and reputation as one of the regular performance bands in the greater Topeka area.
The KTPD’s mission is to preserve, teach and play traditional pipe and drum music of Scotland and Ireland.
The KTPD fields a Grade V band. Individual pipers and drummers have played in bands in Kansas City, Chicago and Canada, and members have brought home medals and awards from competitions across the country.
