THE PIPES ARE CALLIN'...

The Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums, that is.
The Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums are always looking for committed individuals who want to join the band and learn the fine arts of playing the Great Highland Bagpipes or Highland drums. Prior musical experience is helpful but not necessary.
The KTPD is a teaching band, and new members receive free lessons. By working through an established syllabus, new members become firmly grounded in the fundamentals of piping. The tunes increase in difficulty over time, from novice to intermediate to advanced.
Getting Started
You don't need a set of bagpipes to get started. Pipers start out on an instrument called a practice chanter. Chanters run anywhere
from $45 to $150.

Once you're ready to move up to the  pipes, you'll be responsible for purchasing your own. They are not provided by the band. However, band members are always willing to help a new member locate a set of pipes that meets even a modest budget. New pipers should be aware that a set of pipes suitable to a novice can cost anywhere from $900 to $1500 new, and a used set can cost $700 and up.
Uniform
The band will assist new members with obtaining the essential dress items for public performance and competition. Some items are purchased by the band members, while others are provided by the band.
Join the KTPD
If the haunting skirl of the Great Highland Bagpipes or the precision of the drums is calling, and if you're interested in joining the band,
click on the “Contact Us” link at the top of the page to send us an e-mail with your name and phone number.

Beter yet, visit a rehearsal. The Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums rehearse on Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Seaman Middle School, 5620 NW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, Kansas. On nice evenings, you'll find us circling up and rehearsing outside. In inclement  weather, we practice in the school library.
